What is your favorite strategy for processing reports in ruby projects?

Recently, a customer has requested a complex report with several conversions on a large dataset.

I used Ruport - a great choice for quick and dirty reporting. However, after several tests, I realized that the nested groupings of reports and normalized data do not match. Options that are now left on:

  • Denormalize data (possibly in a nightly update view) + do some formatting in Ruby

  • Use a completely different toolbox (JasperReports?)

I am afraid of both possibilities. Does anyone have a better idea (ideally limiting the amount of work to ruby alone)?

Munger aims to be an alternative to Ruport, so it might be worth a look.
