I started exploring several larger server and application infrastructures that could support desktop client interfaces, as well as web interfaces, and actually nullified the two obvious ones: J2EE and .NET. In terms of language, point of view, point of view of portability, etc. I am very pleased to understand my two products. I will just say that, for the most part, it will either be in good enough shape with my initial assessment.
Somewhere pain, although it is in search of a good comparison with the engineers who spent most of the decade working with one, the other, or both. Undocumented frustrations you don’t get from Sun, Microsoft or a book.
A lot of results appear on a Google search, but most of them are from 2002-04. Suffice it to say, since then much has changed. J2EE seems to have become much simpler, and .NET is supposed to have gotten a lot more functionality.
Does anyone know of more current comparisons (over the past two years) that could be read?
