I have been using Notepad ++ for many years, and although it’s convenient, I feel the need to move into the IDE world for various reasons, which I will discuss below. I am looking for IDE recommendations for those who work in several languages daily - I am currently looking at Eclipse and Netbeans, but I’m ready to consider any option.
The reason I did not switch to a full-fledged IDE is because they are so bloated that they load slowly and eat up a ton of memory. Recently I worked on an astronomical number of projects (5-6 at work, over 10 in person) in different languages (Python, PHP, Ruby, Java, Javascript, xHTML, CSS, TorqueScript, to name a few), These are only the languages that I use on a daily basis, although I do not expect to find an IDE that will meet all the requirements of these languages (especially the more lackluster TorqueScript on the list).
So, what would you recommend to someone who needs a fast, configurable IDE that offers support for different languages, syntax highlighting (preferably with different color schemes), organizing / viewing projects, completing Intellisense-ish code?
I forgot to mention that I am primarily targeting the Windows environment here - when I am on my Xubuntu machine (minimally), Geany works great for what I need to accomplish.
