Guidelines for Developing .NET Billing / Invoicing Software

I am currently working on a project where I need to develop / implement a billing / billing system for a new project of our companies. We will generate invoices once a month in the form of PDF files and send a link to the client to the file.

The structure used will be .Net 3.5 / C #. Since I don't have much experience doing this from scratch, I was wondering if there are any best practices from a software point of view that I have to consider in doing so that are relevant to this type of application?

I understand that this question is probably quite subjective, but I am looking for guidelines that you should keep in mind - especially those that are usually omitted or may not be obvious.

Keep it safe! Make sure your users can receive information through a password-protected HTTPS connection! Let users choose their own passwords. And be careful, because billing / invoice information is considered very sensitive, so be prepared, someone will try to hack this system. There will be people trying to abuse this system of accounts, so one thing is important: security!

Some companies completely broke up after they paid for the damage simply because the hacker gained access to his system!
