After watching a friend using RapidWeaver and creating great results in a few clicks, I was amazed and began to search if such a tool exists for Windows. Unfortunately, so far my search has not returned any results, so I am writing here the criteria that I use, hoping that someone will come up with an appropriate proposal:
- WYSIWYG HTML Editor
- Should work (well!) On Windows (Vista / 7)
- Shouldn't be a website (I don't care about a website that allows you to create sites from crappy templates)
- Template-based (and possibly with many templates available)
- Quite flexible (nothing similar to Dreamweaver, but I would not want to get stuck just by entering text into some ready-made templates).
- Intuitive (and possibly beautiful) interface
- Making standardized markup (office HTML is not an option)
Here is what I don't care about :
- Price / License (if it is commercial, perhaps even better for my purpose, as if the tool was good, I need fast, high-quality support).
- Good code editing features (when I have dirty hands with markup, I want everything to look pretty good already, so I just need to improve certain areas based on my requirements ...)
- Server-side script (I handle this otherwise, for this tool I just need the design part)
Here is a list of the most recommended tools that I consider unsuitable for my needs:
- NVU
- KompoZer
- Microsoft Expression Web
- Microsoft Visual Web Designer
- Adobe Dreamweaver (, . - , , html)
