Does Google Chrome V8 really work so well?

Does anyone have time to take a look at it?

I read a little and a lot of promises, if it's half what they say, this will change web programming a lot

I compared Mozilla Firefox 3.0.1 and Google Chrome 0.2.149.27 with SunSpider JavaScript Benchmark with the following results:

  • Firefox - total: 2900.0ms +/- 1.8%
  • Chrome - total: 1549.2ms +/- 1.7%

and V8 Benchmark Suite with the following results (a higher score is better):

  • Firefox Rating: 212
  • Chrome Rating: 1842

Javascript - :

  • Firefox - : 362
  • Chrome - : 349

It is definitely fast. Gmail, Google Reader, and Yahoo Mail load instantly. I can not say that for FF or Opera.

Yes, I saw the tags on the rack, and the V8 looks objectively faster, but as for

this will change web programming a lot

I personally don't think the bottleneck is currently in javascript, but rather in the bandwidth
