Graphical GUIs for Java

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for creating frameworks to give the old desktop application a much needed facelift. The application has a long life, and no one pays attention to its appearance, resulting in a monster with an 80th look.

I just downloaded and tried the MyDoggy framework in order to make the windows floatable and dockable. This way, I look like quick and easy fixes that will return a dead application.

I think you do not want to rewrite your application, right? Because it seems that all the other guys think so, offering SWT and JavaFX.

To slouch in an existing Swing app, look at jgoodies.com , the look of a substance, or swinglabs

Just changing the look and some of the components may already help provide your application with a second youth. Consider, for example, Violet, which is an IMO beautiful application. It uses a custom theme based on PgsLookAndFeel and some components from L2FProd.com .

If you want to go with the latest and greatest, you can try JavaFX . Bu tof course, using the good old swing or more OS SWT agnostic does the trick.
