SVN commands do not appear in the context menu

I just downloaded and installed SVN Tortoise, but no commands appeared on the menu. How is this possible?

Reboot your computer?

Update:

I ran into the same problem myself! This happened when I installed version 1.6 over 1.5. When I restarted my machine, I found Tortoise entries in the Start menu, but not through the context menu. When I clicked the "Settings" button, an error message appeared. So, I uninstalled 1.6 and installed it again. Now it works again! Yes, available through the context menu. I think this is a mistake.

I had the same problem on a 64-bit version of Windows 7. I reinstalled several times, but could not see the contextual overlays in Explorer. So I looked through the list of TortoiseSVN changes and saw a recommendation for installing Repair. This solved my problem.

Besides the first reboot ...

Are you using 64-bit or 32-bit Windows? Tortoise works as a shell extension, so if your Windows OS is 64-bit and you have installed the 32-bit version of Tortoise, you will not see the context menu.

On a side note. If you use a 32-bit tool, such as Total Commander, in a 64-bit OS and want to expand the context menu in both Explorer and Total Commander, you really need to install the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Tortoise.

I had a problem with my full commander and uninstall / reinstall several times, but the real "problem" is the turtle settings. From http://shalom.craimer.org/info/tech-journal/articles/653/The-context-menu-and-icons-for-TortoiseSVN-dont-appear-in-Total-Commander-but-the-do -appear-in-Windows-Explorer.-Why.html

  • Repair in the TortoiseSVN Installer
  • Restart
  • In the TortoiseSVN settings (right-click in the explorer and select "Settings ..." in the "TortoiseSVN" section of the context menu) → "Overlay Icons" uncheck the box "Show overlays and context menus only in Explorer". "

There is a long list of reasons why TSVN does not work in your case. It’s best to look at the TortoiseSVN support list without receiving a message on the list — it's a friendly group.

Oh, it seems that I can’t write messages - go to google groups and find TortoiseSVN, there are two lists tortoisesvn-dev and tortoisesvn, do not ask on the developers list, and you will be asked to ask the user 'list

By the way, I had the same problem on 64-bit Windows Vista. You have to reinstall / reboot twice. The installer was TortoiseSVN-1.6.12.20536-x64-svn-1.6.15.msi.

Whatever I did - install / uninstall / reinstall / repair - nothing worked. Only after installing WANDisco Subversion Tortoise also started working.

Here's how I ran into a problem:

In the new 64-bit Windows 7 OS, I had 32-bit applications and the 64-bit totoisesvn application.

No icons in the shell popup menu!

To solve this problem, I:

  • removed a 32-bit application that also used the menu,
  • removed 64 bit svn
  • used regedit to manually remove residuals in a piece of ShellIconoverlayIdentifyer
  • reboots
  • and then reinstall svn 64-bit svn,
  • and then a 32-bit program.
Success! The svn menu items appeared (32 bits still not displayed).

Conclusion: Install 64-bit applications before 32-bit applications .

I had TortoiseSVN in the explorer context menu, but it was skipped from the UnrealCommander context menu.

I had to delete all TortoiseSVN entries from the registry usage guide. Since the installation for repair did not affect me.

But after reinstalling TortoiseSVN, I had success.

I had exactly the same problem on my Windows 7. Absolutely nothing in the context menu indicates the presence of Tortoise SVN. I performed all the installations, reinstallations, repairs, reboots, etc. that were suggested above.

Finally, a 64-bit version was installed for me.

If you skip your overlay badges, regular “SVN Update” and “SVN Commit” commands, but instead get the “Working copy of SVN Upgrade” command, you should click on it. The reason is that TortoiseSVN has been updated and the working copy format has changed. It is necessary to update manually with 1.7+. This will return your commands and overlay badges.

Similar to what was suggested above, I ran into this problem, and the main reason was 32 v 64 bit. I installed Subversion WANDisco - and TortoiseSVN is automatically installed in this process.

However, the installed version was 32-bit, and I had to uninstall it and reinstall the 64-bit version of TortoiseSVN separately.

Using 32-bit Win XP I deleted, rebooted, then rebooted again and again and fixed the problem

It can be fixed by restoring TortoiseSVN and immediately rebooting the OS. Make sure that you are using the correct version for your OS (32 bit 64 bit).

I had the same problem with Window Server 2003 R2 when I upgraded to TortoiseSVN to version TortoiseSVN-1.6.12.20536-win32-CBN-1.6.15. Now he has decided.

I had a "no context menu" problem after upgrading from version 1.5 to 1.6. After the first reinstallation, I had a new problem: "No tortoise badges." I installed turtle 1.6.16 build 21511 again.

After rebooting, everything works correctly. I have a winning 32-bit computer under XP.

In the context menu inside the SVN settings, you can check "Hide menu for unversioned path" . Uncheck the box and check or press Shift + right click to bring up the context menu.

I just chased a red herring, maybe someone else experienced the same thing:

I thought that the context menu no longer appears to move files with the version. Turns out I was trying to move files to a folder that I haven't added to subversion yet. As soon as I added the folder to Tortoise, the context menu options reappeared. Doh!
