Telnet for google mail server

I want to use telnet for google mail server on linux. I want to send mail using SMTP. But he cannot do it. I am using this command.

telnet alt4.gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com 25

But he says

Trying 209.85.220.19...

After a while he gives time. Does anyone know how to do this?
