I cannot find recent talk of choice. Back in '06, there was criticism of Hibernate Search as incomplete and not ready to compete with Compass, was it? Someone used both options and had a certain perspective for making a decision.
I develop a web application in Java in my free time, it's just me, so I'm looking to damage corners everywhere, minimizing the effect on the final product. Having said that the search capabilities of my project are priority! I spent a lot of time for the database model to support the system. Being able to get what they are looking for is what will put my application on hold. So, the speed is consumed ... obviously, to a reasonable degree.
Here are my current thoughts on the technologies for this application, and if you see any egregious errors newb, be gentle ... I'm no expert.
DB: PostgreSQL
Platform: Java
Framework: Spring, Hibernate, Seam
Obviously, I chose all the free technologies (like in beer) and those that, as far as I can tell, play well together. So what do you guys think Compass or Hibernate Search to bring everything together?
