Is it possible to convert a Tex file to an equivalent Org file? If so, how?

I am in writing and I am halfway there. I just realized that it would be much easier to write this in org-mode and export to latex / pdf than to write it directly in latex mode. Is there a way to convert an existing job to an org mode file? This will save a lot of the work that I have to do manually.

I also doubt that you will find a direct tool. You will need to search using one tool or another.

Which may help use pandoc to convert your LaTeX into something more similar to org-modemarkdown, reStructuredText, or MediaWiki syntax , then do some magic query-replace-regexpor write a little sedscript.

Good luck on the way!

UPDATE: Google search for “convert latex to wiki” I found this page with a python script to convert LaTeX source code to Qwiki markup, maybe this gives you some inspiration.

It looks like the latest version of Pandoc mode has native export support for Org-mode.

I doubt there is a tool for your task, but you should be able to save a lot of keystrokes with Emacs.

For many LaTeXisms, such as the cited characters, try query-replaceand query-replace-regexpand see how far you get. For things that are not easy to solve with regular expressions, you can find useful keyboard macros.
