Where to start when you build a component?

I want to create my own component and don’t know where to start. I have some Delphi books, but they are old and outdated, and I'm looking for some tutorial / book recommendations to help me do this. The component will be pretty simple, basically 2 shortcuts and an image. I need hundreds of them in an array, so I thought a component would be a better route. The text will adjust depending on the width, etc., and will have some mouseover events. So basically, where to start?

I am using Delphi 2009, it will be a win32 application.

Thanks!

So, you may need to calculate how much processor / disk overhead your hundreds of controls will create and how much memory they need. If you stay younger than 1GB and the boot time is less than 10 seconds, then this is relatively normal. IF not, you can think about your management design before you start implementing it.

Hope this was helpful. See Ya.
