We have an integrated system (at least that's what we call it), which consists of a huge C ++ / VB / MSSQL software to support every single aspect of the organization.
Some of our existing customers ask if it can be ported to the Internet in the style of sexy web 2.0, of course, this is also very important for us, because we will have a new, fresh, modern product that would allow us to adopt the SaaS model, which, in our opinion, it is a big commercial one and will undoubtedly open many new doors, therefore we are not trying to convince the client that this is not a good idea.
But is there any place on the Internet for such an application?
If necessary, should we use the Webtop interface (simulating a desktop) or should we go for standard Web 2.0 37Signals, such as a user interface?
How in your experience it would be better for the presentation of such an application, and what tools / languages / technologies would you recommend (if any) in your experience that we will come in handy when developing the chosen model.
Keep in mind that current desktop software is huge, with over 200 SQL tables, 250 forms, and about 400 different reports.
Everyone is welcome understanding, advice or recommendations.
I thank you all for your time and apologize for the many-part issue squeezed into one very long post.
