Is there an open tool (free to read) that allows me to see my HTTP browser commands?

I go into the HTTP protocol specification and I would like to see / understand the calls that my browser makes when it is in use. I use Firebug (with Firefox) to view / debug AJAX interactions, etc., but I don’t see the full HTTP conversation.

Is there something similar for viewing HTTP commands issued by a browser?

I use Tamper Data , the Firefox add-on, to see and manage HTTP requests and responses.
