From Direct3d to OpenGL

I am currently rewriting an old Visual Basic application in java, most of the work involved replacing Direct3d with jogl.
 Since I have no experience with Direct3d and only minimal experience using Opengl, I am stuck in finding suitable replacements for api calls.

Are there any good guides / tutorials or links?
