Ideas for toy projects that can be found with Cocoa and Cocoa Touch

What are some things that a new Cocoa programmer should write as examples of projects outside of manual tutorial retention?

What do you need but do not need?

Creating what I actually use is what helps me get more in the project and, therefore, is more likely to finish it!

Personally, I think the Todo list is a good place to start learning the basics, and once the basics are there, you can add things like synchronization between other things, such as calendars.
