When it comes to sorting content, I am always embarrassed, as a rule, I will have categories and tags as reasonable options, nevertheless, I wonder when to use categories and when to use tags or even when to use them? Categories look simpler and easier to implement, and tags provide much more flexibility, but often prove to be too complex and affect usability. Think of del.icio.us, for example, finding content in thousands of tags is not interesting. At this point, I am making bets on categories more practical. Because, how delicious that really works, the hottest tags that I think are conceptually βcategoriesβ.
I saw that wordpress uses a common scheme to handle this. It implements a general taxonomy to deal with categories and tags in the same way. This makes the implementation a bit more complicated.
I would like to hear other people talking about it. Thank you
