Trying to Avoid AppDomains

I have a long application on a C # server running on Linux / mono, and I added the ability to load DLL assemblies on the fly to extend the application. I found that updating these DLL assemblies at run time cannot be performed without using AppDomains, which in appearance will simply interfere with what I have already done. Of course, there will be workarounds, but that’s not what I really want.

Does mono provide any alternative solutions that I might have missed? Is there anything new in C # 4.0 in this area?
