Hyperlink versus Button

Finding input for user interface templates regarding the use of hyperlinks and buttons.

The screen in the web application should / has a combination of buttons and hyperlinks on it. It seems that the "look" is the main determining factor that is used, but I want something more logical than that.

Does anyone know any hard and fast rules about when to use them?

Do you have your own recommendations that you would like to share?

Thanks.

Links go in places. Buttons send data locations.

In a nutshell, if you have form data, click the button. Otherwise, do not.
