Flawless Font on Netbeans on Linux

I installed NetBeans 6.8 on Linux (Mint based on Ubuntu 9.10) and I see that rendering of fonts is very strange. Fonts in NetBeans are so thin, unlike any other program, be it gEdit, Eclipse, Firefox or something else.

Does anyone know if it's possible to make fonts in NetBeans bolder?

Bonus question: AFAIK and Eclipse and NetBeans are written in Java. What gives?

Since a picture is worth a thousand words ... screenshot (it will not allow me to send images)
