PE Header Requirements

What are the requirements of a PE file (PE / COFF)? What fields should be set, what value, at the minimum minimum, to allow it to “run” on Windows (ie, run the “ret” command and then close without errors).

The library that I create first is the linker. Now the problem is the PE file (PE / COFF). I do not know what is “required” for a PE file before it can actually run on my platform. My test platform is Vista. I get an error: “ This is not a valid Win32 executable. ” When I double-click it and get “Access Denied”. when executing it using CLI cmd. I have two sections: .text and .data.

I implemented PE headers as provided by several online docs, i.e. MSDN and some other third party docs. If I use a hex editor, it looks almost like a regular PE file. I do not use import, neither IAT, nor any directories in the PE header.

Edit: I added an import table , still not a valid .exe file, says my Windows. I tried using the values ​​that are also mentioned in the smallest PE file manual. Bad luck. In fact, the only thing I can’t understand is what is required and what is not. Some guides tell me everything is required, while others talk about hardships: and it can be zero.
