Find element in SVG in Opera by coordinates

Question

How to find an element in SVG in Opera, given coordinates?

elementFromPoint (x, y) works fine with Firefox, but doesn't seem to work with Opera, always returning the entire SVG, not a specific element.

One may ask why I need this at all. Well, just because I would like to highlight the SVG element under the cursor and because Opera does not fire any event when the element under the cursor is added / deleted before you make a move with the mouse. That is, when I add a new element, it does not highlight before slightly moving the mouse, which does not look pleasant.
