TODO comments font color in VS2010 using ReSharper tools and performance

I just installed Powerivity Tools for Visual Studio 2010. I also have ReSharper installed. Prior to installing PowerTools, my TODO comments (ie // TODO: Do Something ) were displayed in code using the font specified in the VS parameters as the "Resharper Todo Item". This is now a dark blue color and seems to ignore the VS settings.

I use a dark theme, so I can hardly read these comments. I dug up all the options that I can find (all the options in the VS options, including the new power tool options and the ReSharper options) and cannot find it.

Any thoughts?

To change the color of TODO elements in a text editor, change the environment settings using Visual Studio (Tools → Options → Environment → Fonts and Colors)

Then go to the item in the "Display items" list, which in this case is the "Resharper TODO item"

UPDATE: this applies to Resharper 7.1 and 8.2 up , as indicated in this comment

For Resharper 8 <8.2 see Solution below @Soeholm

I had this problem with Resharper 8.0.1 and none of the other answers helped me as the "Resharper TODO item" did not appear in the list.

I found a solution to the problem here:

http://resharper-support.jetbrains.com/entries/26859128-ReSharper-Fonts-Colors-settings-do-not-appear-in-Visual-Studio-after-installation

  • Close all instances of Visual Studio
  • Open C: \ Program Files (x86) \ Microsoft Visual Studio {VS version} \ Common7 \ IDE \ Extensions \ extensions.configurationchanged file
  • Enter something there
  • Save file
  • Open VS and check fonts and colors in Tools | Options | Environment

We hope this helps any Resharper 8 user :-)

Have you tried this dialog? (Resharper → Options → Tools → Todo items) bottom to bottom

If this helps someone, I discovered another collision with the TODO tag in Visual Studio 2010. This happens when the VSCommands extensions are installed . To fix the color of TODO,

  • go to Tools -> Options -> Fonts and Colors .
  • Locate vscommands.comment.todo.exe-associated program (eg. VSCommands.Comment.Todo) under the Display Items list.
  • Correct the color;)

If your Visual Studio does not have ReSharper color settings in Tools → Options → Environment → Fonts and colors, you can return them by deleting the cache from the registry.

For VS 2013, the cache is located in the registry at: HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ VisualStudio \ 12.0 \ FontAndColors \ Cache

VS2012 cache is located in HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ VisualStudio \ 11.0 \ FontAndColors \ Cache

Both of these must be reset separately.

Backing up and then deleting the entire cache folder fixed the problem for me, so the next time I started VS 2013, I had ReSharper color settings available.

The VSCommands plugin can also change this. But since their default color for "TODO" is red rather than blue, this probably doesn't affect you. At the same time, in addition to the answer from Genius above, VSCommands has a special page "Formatting Comments": Red Comments of Visual Studio 2010 .
