What is the impact of successful sessions on the Google App Engine?

I just turned <sessions-enabled>true</sessions-enabled>on Google App Engine in my application, and now my requests are sequentially using another 100 ms of processor time than before I turned it on. It also makes the user wait an additional 100 ms for the server to respond to each request. This is apparently a pretty significant cost, I don't even call getSession or use it yet, and it adds an extra delay.

Is there something I can do to speed this up?

EDIT: It's strange that the extra processor time is gone.
