Role / permission structure for C #?

Question

Does anyone know of a good structure that allows me to create permissions and roles against users.

It basically allows me to automatically check that a user can do a certain thing, and then turn off or on menu items, etc.

I'm really not looking for asp.net protection ... since I need to use it at my own level of service and clients who will use WEB and WPF.

I was hoping for something that allows me to create new roles and groups against users, and then check what types of rights the user has or the group has

Any help is really appreciated.

I'm sure there is some kind of open source open source environment and I was hoping not to create my own

If the capabilities provided by ASP.NET membership / role providers (such as SQL Server providers) are sufficient, I suggest you use them. You can create a web service interface for your WPF application, which uses the same providers to request a list of users and roles. They are by no means limited to "web forms."
