Embedded Development Board

I am new to the embedded development world and want to get the very first board.

After some research, I understand that with FPU there are not many options. This is important in my project, as I'm going to do quite a lot of floating point calculations.

I found a Mini2440 that seems to work on the ARM920T core. This unit is perfect for my needs (decent price, all the right I / O ports and a touch screen to boot), but it doesn't seem to have an FPU. I don’t know what penalty amount I would pay for emulating FP, so I’m not sure what to pull the trigger on this.

That said:

  • Can anyone confirm if this product (Mini2440) has FPU or not?
  • My project will do image capture and analysis. Does anyone have experience with files such as OpenMP on such platforms?
  • Please offer any other similar boards in the price range ≤ $ 200 that has an FPU.
  • This world is new to me. Any other tips or things I should know about are greatly appreciated.

Fixed-point math can perform almost all floating-point operations and ARM processors with an optimized position for shear optimization. I haven't had an FPU for so long that Fixed Point encoding is second nature to me. And even better, corrected math is often more accurate.

In short, do not write off the board because it does not have an FPU. :)
