What does "domain" and "persistence" mean?

I always come across these two words.

I know that when you talk about a domain model, you talk about objects.

And the retention level is the level at which your data is stored, for example. MySQL database.

But can anyone explain these words in more detail?

Why is this called a domain? Why perseverance?
