Cloud Security & Privacy

I have a very serious doubt about cloud computing, which these days is pretty quickly caught. As far as I understand, cloud computing is a paradigm in which companies place their data and applications on other machines, aka Cloud. I want to know how safe it is to post my data on some third-party machines, especially if my data contains personal data. In particular, how can a corporation trust cloud service providers in this aspect of data privacy?

Good question.

I think it comes down to scrutinizing the small print of the cloud service provider, seeing that they guarantee confidentiality (and whether these guarantees guarantee legal support), and then make a "business decision" that weighs the risks and benefits.

In general, developers should not make these decisions.
