Solr Read and Write Latency Exception Handling

I am new to solr. I designed a website that uses solr for indexing. I want to handle timeouts that may occur while reading and writing solr. Please tell me how I can handle these exceptions. I use solrj as a solr client, and my solr site and server are running on tomcat.
