Why can't I see new content in an Amazon EBS volume created from an existing snapshot?

Question

I created an EBS volume, connected and installed it on an EC2 instance. Created some sample text files in the mounted directory and took a snapshot from the AWS console.

The problem is that when I create a new EBS volume using this snapshot and mount this new volume, I don’t see the saved content (in the snapshot).

What could be the problem? My data does not fall into the snapshot? Or is there a new volume that has any problems?
