Why is IIS 7.0 compatible with the IIS 6.0 metabase?

Recently, I came across some painful time when our application installer could not start due to the lack of compatibility with the IIS 6.0 metabase on my Win2008 machine.

I am curious to know why this is required. Can anyone give some ideas?

IIS 6 has several interfaces for managing through scripts and other programming languages. Many products rely on such interfaces.

IIS 7 no longer supports them by default unless you install the metabase compatibility role service. Thus, he promotes the latest interfaces.
