What is a reasonable map map API solution to run?

I am developing my application with Google Maps and a great plugin for them, expecting that when I put my application into production, commercial licensing will not be too expensive.

Then I found out that it costs $ 10,000 a year, no exceptions so far.

This is not a terrible price for unlimited use when your site becomes successful, but for those of us who are trying to build something from scratch, this is a huge price to pay. I looked at Bing and Yahoo, but they are very frivolous with what rating the price is. Which is in addition to the fact that I have to split my beautiful YM4R plugin for Google maps ...

Is there anyone out there using the map API solution that doesn’t stand by the arm and leg to get started in the commercial aspect? I do not mind using the plugin, I just need something that works and will cost at the beginning.

CloudMade was recommended in this previous question . Look at their prices .

My personal opinion would be to use the efficient "standard" OSS libraries that make up this type of stack.

OSGEO has tons of resources for exactly that.

PostGIS (database)
Apache (webserver)
MapServer (WMS compliant GIS server)
OpenStreetMap (the maps you'll need)
OpenScales or OpenLayers (Flex or JS API)

I really don't know why you need maps, but I suggest you check out the OpenStreetMap project, which is Open Source and Free Software.

Obviously, this is a little less productive and accurate, but it is a very good product.

Will your site work for a fee?
