How can I determine if a candidate is a good Sharepoint developer / developer?

I need to interview some people as a Sharepoint Architect / Developer role.

While I own .NET, I have worked very little with Sharepoint, so I'm not sure how to test Sharepoint skills. Do you have any testing suggestions that I can throw at candidates?

Please suggest questions that I can ask candidates; and please indicate if your question should “know” for the Sharepoint developer. Include the answer to your question.
