PhpStorm how to update the contents of a folder or the entire project tree

This may be a dumb question, but I can’t find the option to update the contents of the folder in the project tree (PhpStorm IDE). Is this (really basic) function missing?

I know that the content is updated automatically, but in some types of folders where files are generated and change frequently, this does not work.

right-click on the folder and then sync "nameOfFolder" to update a specific folder.

If this does not solve your problem, you may have an invalid cache. You can solve this problem by invalidating the cache.

Select File , then Invalidate Caches / Restart ... in the menu, then Invalidate and Restart .

Note. this solution will delete the cache, including local history, for all projects.

Tested in phpstorm 2016.3

The behavior I want is that the IDE is updated with any file changes made through a terminal or an external application (e.g. Git).

I found this solution through Google: https://intellij-support.jetbrains.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/206356869-PhpStorm-should-scan-project-directory-for-changes

Select File , then Settings , then Appearance & Behavior , then select System Settings, and finally, under the Sync check box Synchronize files on frame or editor tab activation

If the above directions are long, go to settings and find β€œsync.”
