Pylons and NodeJS / Comet

I am creating Pylons web applications that use a lot of jQuery and AJAX / JSON to make these applications more Web 2.0'ie. I look at push server technology and ask questions about how to do this with Pylons. I looked at Comet and NodeJS (although I still don't know much about NodeJS), and I'm confused about what would be a good method for implementing push-push technologies in Pylons. I currently imitate this when my JavasScript client application periodically polls to update the contents of the application.

Does anyone have any info / pointers / tips / help on what I'm talking about in the paragraph above? Your help will be definitely appreciated!

Thanks in advance! Doug

Pylons are unlikely to help you with "Comet" (aka Server Push). Comet relies on leaking data on compounds that have been open for a long time. Pylons is WSGI in the kernel, which really eliminates long-term connections.

You will probably need a separate ASYNCHRONOUS messaging server, which will be your comet server.

To get started, take a look at a good example of Comet functionality in action: http://code.stanziq.com/speeqe/ The site is interesting in that they note the more popular Python comet gluing kits: Punjab, BOSH, XMPP.
