ASP.NET Web Application Architecture / Templates

Question

Does anyone know some nice, short, and subtle tutorials that describe modern / contemporary web architecture applications / templates (especially for ASP.NET (classic and MVC) applications (possibly also with Silverlight built-in components)? How did you develop today? ASP.NET application that uses different data sources (databases, services, ...)? Background: I’ve been writing web applications for a couple of years and I want to start now again, so at the moment I'm a little unsure how to take off and find the right starting point.
