Multitasking on iOS4: Does it Only Work on iPhone?

I have iOS 4.0 on the 2nd generation iPod Touch.

Multitasking doesn't work at all. Nothing happens in the background, and double-clicking the Home button leads to a simple one. I wanted to test my app against this new feature, but it doesn't seem to work for iPod Touch devices?

Does this only work on iPhone? Or are there some minor updates, such as 4.0.0.1, that have activated multitasking? Or do I need to enable this somewhere manually?

Really strange. I do the same thing as the guys from Apple in the demo videos.
