Getting useful error messages in Windows 7

During the development of Windows XP, if my application detected an unhandled exception, it would display the error message "X encountered an error ..." and let me start the debugger. In Windows 7, all I get is a message saying that "X has stopped working, Windows is checking the solution."

I no longer see the details of the error message, and I am not given the opportunity to debug.

I am using VS2005 and JIT debugging is turned on as far as I can tell.

Anyway, to get back to useful WinXP error messages?

Edit: This is a standard WinForms desktop application that does not require special permissions to run.

You may have found some useful WER (Windows Error Reporting) settings:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb513638%28VS.85%29.aspx

Alternatively, you can use this as a landing point to get in touch with WER:

Unfortunately, I cannot directly answer your question, but perhaps this can serve as a hint for further study.
