How to license a sharepoint solution?

Question

Suppose you have created a SharePoint solution — WebPart, a feature for a list template, whatever — what you plan to sell as a product.

How do you feel about licensing your solution?

I am looking for some input, at least in the following areas:

• Code-wise:

  1.1. Where do you keep the license yourself? how is the file somewhere? (what happens on the farms?) how is the property in the bag of the farm property?

  1,2. You implement a "home call" - where does your solution check the license every time on your company servers?

  1.3. Any other best practice in this area would be welcome ...

• Business wise: how is your user license? to the server? per instance (in the case of web pages or list templates)?
