• User interface design for programmers Joel Spolsky. A good first book for programmers. Phrases that will stick to your mind and affect your design, such as "People can't control the mouse."

I would also recommend the Humane Interface: new directions for developing interactive systems from Jef Raskin. There are some really inspiring ideas.
