Processing Illustrators or PDFs in XAML

What are the alternatives for processing illustrator files or PDF files in XAML. My current workflow works as follows:

  • Open the PDF file in Adobe Illustrator
  • Save the file as a .ai file (Adobe Illustrator)
  • Open in Expression Design
  • Do some processing, mainly dividing elements into layers and removing unnecessary parts.
  • Save as XAML
  • Add XAML project to Blend

My only problem is that this way the text is converted in a way. I would like to save my text in XAML, and not on the go.

Is there any other way to do this, so I save the text? Any other tools?

Representing text (as opposed to running glyphs) would be a TextBlock element in XAML, I suppose. However, I assume that a typical PDF to XPS converter is unlikely to generate TextBlock elements. XPS is mainly intended for visualization - on the screen or on paper - it does not offer itself as a file format that is especially suitable for data exchange (text exchange in your case).
