Text Indent vs. Position for SEO

What is the best way to hide a text element and replace it with an image, while maintaining good SEO. I have seen negative text indentation, but I prefer absolute positioning with a negative top.

So I would like to know what is best for SEO. Most search engines consider negative-vertex text elements with absolute positioning; also for text indentation?

I would be very surprised if there was any difference. Search engines take care of your content, they usually don’t load your stylesheets, so all they’ll see is markup that will be the same for both methods.

Replacing images is good for users and search engines, so as long as you do not do this for the purpose of cloaking, you will be fine.
