RESTful: bidirectional communication

I was wondering if it is possible to have a RESTful web service and bidirectional communication with clients and server.

In my case, the state on the server may change, so the server must send a message to clients to update themselves. Perhaps this is completely against the idea of ​​RESTful.

Can I help AJAX with this problem?

It is not possible to execute the standard http paradigm, but look at Comet for a possible workaround for this problem, and there is always a poll.
