Windows Phone 7 Target Screen Resolution - Recommendations?

The official WP7 emulator uses a resolution of 800x480. The only information I can find on the planned WP7 phones (e.g. Samsung Cetus i917) has the same resolution. While I realize the attractiveness of writing resolution-independent programs, I would rather focus on directing a well-known set of hardware to maximum than sacrificing features and efficiency for one-time applications.

Is it possible to consider that 800x480 will be widely used as a de facto standard for WP7 devices and encode accordingly? Or are there reasons (other than obvious) that I should consider variable screen resolution in my programs?

800x480 is currently a requirement established by MS for WP7 equipment. However, we also know that MS will eventually introduce another resolution for Blackberry phones (320x480, I think?).

The only problem that remains is to know if these permissions are a minimum requirement or an established requirement.

So, to answer your question: its safe code for 800x480, now seeing that the first batch of devices will be 800x480

From some XNA 4 docs I read:

, . . , . , Windows Phone 7.

C#
if (this.Window.CurrentOrientation == DisplayOrientation.Portrait)
{
    graphics.PreferredBackBufferWidth = 480;
    graphics.PreferredBackBufferHeight = 800;
}
else
{
    graphics.PreferredBackBufferWidth = 800;
    graphics.PreferredBackBufferHeight = 480;
}

, 800x480 . , , .
