Finding a PHP / MySQL Search Base Class

Noob-ish question: I'm looking for an easy but decent php way to search all the fields of a MySql table, regardless of structure . At first I tried on my own with the default mysql selection, but this is too thorough. I'm looking for something that should at least sort the results by the best match (highlighting keywords will also be nice).

I am surprised at the little information I found on the Internet. What I have found so far is the Zend Framework Lucene implementation , but it seems too heavy (building a separate index) for my needs. Before delving into it, I was wondering if there was a simpler way.

Because the search is a very complicated thing. Think about what you are asking. You need a tiny search engine that can simply determine how your spreadsheets are laid out, and what are relevant and what things need to be done. If you can come up with this, you will be rich and probably work for Google.

Lucene, as you mentioned, or the Sphinx search ( http://sphinxsearch.com/ ) are great. MySQL also has built-in full-text search, which you can find at http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/fulltext-search.html

But they all take configuration and implementation. They are not just going to “know” what you want.
