How can I reliably recognize 4.x tools?

I have a little dilemma - no matter what I do, I can not get Apple Instruments.app to symbolize any of the included tools while I profile my devices (it works fine in iOS Simulator).

I have tried everything I can think of, including:

  • Verifying that I am actually creating dSYM
  • Switching between Debug and Release Build Schemes
  • Make sure the signing certificate used in my development certificate
  • Add or remove my Derived Data folder from Spotlight privacy list
  • Cleaning and assembly before profiling
  • Deleting the Derived Data folder before creating and profiling

I'm not sure where to go from here. I had characters an hour or two earlier in the week, but I just can't make them appear at all. It would be great to find out what a mystical spell is to make Tools always find my application characters.

In the "File" menu there is an option "Repeated symbolic document". After choosing this, you can find your list in the list and use the "Find" button to manually specify the dSYM location. There is also a checkbox for using Spotlight to search for dSYM; it may have been deactivated if Spotlight was linked at some point, but is now fixed.

It doesn't seem like you can do this while the instruments are really on the instrument, but it seems to save the setting the next time you click Record. However, he does not seem to remember the settings after closing the tools.

Did you guarantee that you sign the application with a development profile (as opposed to a distribution profile)? Keep in mind that you usually use release builds with tools, so make sure you don't select a distribution profile for your release configuration ...

I saw that tools 4.2 cannot symbolize the correct dSYM file several times.

After saving and exiting / restarting tools, this will be symbolized.

(Sometimes I collect a small sample and make sure it works before collecting large samples.)

Apart from the xcode tools, you can use atos: https://stackoverflow.com/a/16729/16/
