The list of returned GetIpAddrTable adapters is different from the GetAdaptersAddresses attributes.

I would like to know the main reason why it GetIpAddrTablereturns fewer network adapters than GetAdaptersAddresses. The reasons below are listed below (updated for each answer).

Candidate Reasons

  • IPv6 adapters: they will only be displayed for GetAdaptersAddresses. In this example, I have an example adapter with local IP addresses for IPv4 and IPv6 that do not appear on the output from GetIpAddrTable.

Background

I am investigating a function issue GetIpAddrTableon a specific Dell laptop running Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium (version: 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601). The system in question cannot detect specific network adapters through GetIpAddrTable. Diagnostic results are given below.

Can someone explain why I can see such wildly different results from these two functions? We used GetIpAddrTablefor almost two years without any problems.

Documentation Verification

The documentation for GetIpAddrTableindicates that link state detection can cause problems for XP, but does not give any reason why adapters might not appear at all. It seems that virtual adapters are not included, but our device is not a virtual adapter (it is Ethernet via USB).
