C ++ is fast. Qt is fast. Running the Python interpreter is relatively quick (2-3 seconds on my computer). PyQt is a thin wrapper around Qt. Why is the launch of the PyQt application (about 80 lines, even in .pyc form) so slow (6-12 seconds)? I am interested in the reasons for this and, most importantly, ways to improve this situation.
There is a known bug in Qt 4.6.3 that is harmful to application launches. Perhaps this is affected and 4.4.3. Try upgrading to 4.7.0, which fixes this error.
