What logic is best used to count articles read by the same person over time?

I plan to store the number of times the article / page was viewed in the database. This is so that I can have a list of the “most popular posts / articles” in Wordpress.

This was a good topic for a similar question: How is the "View Count" best implemented?

My question is: a person can view an article several times on the same day / week.

What is the best industry practice for counting the number of times an article is read by the same person?

And is there a way to decide that multiple users are on the same IP address?

Update

I do not use coding methods to count the views of articles / posts (session, cookie IP address, CGI, etc.).

I'm just wondering which logic is best used to count articles read by the same person over time?

For anonymous browsing, you can associate an IP address with a person. For non-anonymous use, you can use the person’s credentials to make sure that multiple views of the same page on the same credentials (i.e. Individual) do not lead to several increments in the number of views.
