Missing assemblies: WindowsBase, PresentationCore, PresentationFramework

I have a weird compile-time error:

The project file must contain the .NET Framework assembly "WindowsBase, PresentationCore, PresentationFramework" in the list of links.

This project is an aspnet mvc web application, and all this has been good for a long time.

After I added them, the assembly went fine, but what could be causing this error?

This was caused by the addition of a file with the extension .xaml . By default, VS.NET tries to execute it.

BuildAction: none, : always, .

VS usually gives you an error right away when entering the name of something for which it cannot find a definition, so it seems strange that you got to compilation before you noticed.
